About this much.
One of the things I wanted my next motorcycle to have was more cargo room, like even more than the milk crate on my moped lol. Well I can say for sure I got my wish. This was with the hard side bags, and a soft top bag that cane with the bike, but without a backpack, or anything bungee corded down. I estimated pretty dang well, I had room for everything, only having to smush down a box of cookies bags. No biggy. But every thing was Full, aside from the little side pockets on the top bag.
Side note, My side bags can not carry a 24 pack of anything. But they fit a 12 exactly. With room for some groceries on top.

Can carry none amount, but I can carry a fair amount on my bike. I bought paniers that are designed to hold one paper bag each and I can carry a couple of heavy things like milk or soda on the rack.
Like this, but not my bike. They work really well and fold flat when not in use. When the temps are mild (not 103 like today) its fine to ride the few blocks to the store to get groceries. I could probably carry everything in that first picture.

This is my grocery getter bicycle. Works very well for getting stuff for one or two nights, or picking up some beverages on the way home from work.

I have had saddlebags on many motorcycles over the past 30 or so years. It’s amazing what you can carry in them, if you take the time to pack properly. Add a backpack to a rear rack and your good for a substantial hau l.
A buddy of mine in California who’s only source of transportation for many years was his Honda CB 1000, never had saddlebags, only using a backpack that he wore. I had told him on more than one oc ca sion that he should get some saddlebags, but he didn’t want to make the bike wider, thinking it would inhibit his lane splitting commute.
One weekend, while camping at Laguna Seca for the Moto GP rac es, we head to the grocery store after getting dinner in town. It is unusually hot and we water for the next day. I grab 2 gallon jugs and my friend takes one. When we go out to our bikes, he’s looking for a way to secure the jug to his seat, his backpack is at the track. I open a saddlebag, put 2 jugs in it and snap the lid shut. My buddy seems astonished. I ask if he wants me to take his and put it i n the other bag, and he promptly hands me the jug. “That thing can carry 3 fxxxing gallons of water” he exclaims. “And more” I say. “That’s FXXXING AWESOME!” he shouts. I think this finally sold him on saddlebags.

They sure are handy. I just had a little 1 gallon tail bag on my XT200. I know it was one gallon because it would hold exactly one gallon of bagged milk, that’s it. Lol.
I’m sort of planning a 3-4 camping trip next month. I need to get a smaller tent, and I’m thinking of converting a cooler is into a top case, and adding fishing pole mounts to it.

I’ve done a lot of motorcycle camping, 2-4 day trips usually. Never brought a fishing pole, and usually would grab a cheap styro foam cooler at a spo t near the campsite, but using one as a tail trunk works too. My first tent was a 2 man, which I quickly upgraded to a 3 man mostly to store my stuff while not at the site.

The only tent I have right now is a 5 person tent, and way too heavy and large to use for motorcycle camping. It’s kinda a PITA in general, but we can put a king size air mattress in it, which is my Wife’s kind of camping.

I have never brought a sleeping mat or air mattress on a motorcycle camping trip, but I do remember using one as a boy on family camping trips. I use a compact travel pillow and a decent sleeping bag, nothing elaborate.
Get an inexpensive Coleman, or similar, 3 person dome ten t:

My Coleman is 20+ years old, similar to above, but is one of their old school instant set up tents. I bought it at a Coleman outlet at 50% off. Claim was that they set up in 1 minute. Only big difference is the poles are built into the tent, just lift from center and snap poles together.

Yeah, I’ve always like them on cruiser bikes. Not going fast or doing jumps on it anyway, may as well lean back and relax.

My buddy and I could fit an entire fully loaded grocery cart on two motorcycles. I had saddle bags, a tail bag, and a small back pack and he had a giant framed hiking backpack that came up just past his head. My soft saddle bags were expandable and could fit a TON of stuff .
